Native Language Protectors and Carriers

Support Native American and Indigenous Languages. Native languages carry the heart of Indigenous knowledge and identity. This series amplifies the voices of those who are keeping that heartbeat strong—language protectors and carriers working to ensure their words, stories, and teachings live on.

In 2025, Native Circles launched a special series, created by Dr. Farina King and edited by Brian D. King, that centers on the brilliant people safeguarding Indigenous languages. Each episode features voices of Native educators, advocates, and language learners and speakers who are working tirelessly to sustain, revive, and practice their people’s languages. From immersive master‑apprentice programs and ceremonial use to innovative teaching techniques aimed at youth and community, this series honors the individuals, Language Protectors and Carriers, whose stories are vital to the survival of Native languages.

Dr. Farina King (Diné), Horizon Chair of Native American Ecology and Culture at the University of Oklahoma, leads as host and narrator. Brian D. King, an experienced editor and writer, brings clarity and coherence to the series. Together, they illuminate not just the challenges but the deep cultural and spiritual importance of Indigenous language revitalization and practice.
